The Head of Chair of Public Economics took part in the discussion round at the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) together with the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in Berlin on the topic of data linkage for statistics and research. The report on the event has now been published in "Schlaglichter der Wirtschaftspolitik".
In February, the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) held a workshop discussion on the topic of linking (personal) data for statistics and research. In the context of drafting the Research Data Act, the aim was to raise awareness of the lack of options for linking data. On the one hand, the linking of data is often a requirement for good research results and policy advice. On the other hand, statistics can be collected with less burden by linking data or are made possible in the first place.
Numerous experts from the scientific community and relevant institutions took part in the workshop discussion. Representatives from other federal ministries, the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI) and the Federal Statistical Office (StBA) were also present.
The participants discussed best practices as well as challenges and suggestions for improvement in data linkage. All speakers made clear that promising research is hindered by the lack of linkage of (personal) data.
The report on the event has now been published in "Schlaglichter der Wirtschaftspolitik".
