Open Day 2026: Great Interest at the Department of Economics’ Infodesk [07.07.26]
Sunny weather, lively crowds, and exciting insights: the Department of Economics’ infodesk at the University of Hohenheim’s Open Day was a great success. Many visitors took the opportunity to learn more about research, teaching, and the wide range of topics covered by economics.
On 4 July 2026, the University of Hohenheim opened its doors and welcomed numerous guests to campus in wonderfully sunny weather. The castle courtyard and surrounding areas were very busy, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere throughout the day.
The Department of Economics was represented with its own stand and attracted a great deal of interest. Staff members were available throughout the day to talk about their work in research and teaching and to give visitors an insight into the many fields of economics — from mmacroeconomics to public economics and economic and social history.
A particular highlight were the interactive economic games and experiments, which were very popular with both adults and children. The Chair of Macroeconomics invited visitors to explore the fascinating world of cryptocurrencies through an interactive game. The Chair of Public Economics used a behavioural economics experiment to spark reflections on fairness and the role of the state. And at the offer of the Chair of Economic and Social History, visitors could test their knowledge with the large card game “Innovations” in a playful way.
These activities made academic content not only accessible, but also tangible and engaging. Many guests took the chance to ask questions, join in, and gain a better understanding of how diverse and practical economics can be.
The Department of Economics would like to thank all visitors for their great interest and the many enjoyable conversations. We are already looking forward to next year’s Open Day and to being part of it again.
