Independence Movements and Ethnic Politics [23.04.26]
Our postdoc Gerda Asmus-Bluhm from the Chair of Economic and Social History at the Institute of Economics will present her research, “Independence Movements and Ethnic Politics: The Mau Mau Origins of Ethnic Voting and Distrust in Kenya,” at the Research Seminar in Economics on May 6.
Gerda Asmus-Bluhm is an Assistant Professor at the University of Hohenheim. She is also a senior researcher at the economics department of Goettingen University for the project „Economic and Ideological Causes of Political Radicalization and Violence“. Her research is at the intersection of political economy, economic history, and development economics. Within these broad fields, she studies critical junctures such as democratization, the consolidation of imperial power, or the end of colonialism.
In the summer term, excellent international scientists visit the University of Hohenheim in the research seminar and give lectures on their research. In addition to attending the lecture, there is often a special opportunity during office hours to exchange ideas with the guest, e.g. about their own research approaches.
Master's students are also welcome to take part in the research seminar and talk to the speakers as well as the doctoral students, postdocs and professors at the institute.
The lecture will take place on May 6, 2025 at 12:00 pm in HS 35 (Kavaliershaus).
