New Publication in Economics Letters: "Endogenous task allocation and intrafirm bargaining" [30.09.25]
The paper "Endogenous task allocation and intrafirm bargaining" by Martyna Marczak (Trinity College Dublin) and Thomas Beissinger (Chair of Labour Economics and Service Economics, University of Hohenheim) has been published in Economics Letters, Vol. 256 (2025).
The paper develops a model that incorporates task-based production into a matching model with intrafirm wage
bargaining. Unlike in existing task-based models, the representative firm derives the optimal task allocation
as a function of capital and labor, rather than relative factor prices. Embedding this mechanism in a model
with strategic employment choice, the authors show how the properties of task-level technology affect the extent of
overhiring.
