New Postdocs at the Department of Economics [16.10.26]
For the 2026–27 winter term, we welcome Johannes Kochems (Chair of Public Economics) and Maximilian Perl (Chair of International Economics) as new postdocs at the Department of Economics.
Since October 2026, Maximilian Perl has been a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of International Economics at the University of Hohenheim. His research focuses on issues in regional and labor market economics, particularly the causes of regional inequalities and the effects of regionally oriented industrial policy. In his studies, he examines the impact of industrial policy measures on firms and regions using German firm-level data. In doing so, he combines quasi-experimental methods with quantitative spatial models. Before joining the University of Hohenheim, Maximilian Perl earned his Ph.D. at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
The University of Hohenheim particularly impressed him with its postdoctoral program: “I chose the University of Hohenheim because the Department of Economics provides excellent support for postdoctoral researchers.”

He is also a research associate at the ZEW—Leibniz Center for European Economic Research in Mannheim and is affiliated with the Cluster of Excellence “ECONtribute: Markets & Public Policy.
"I came to the University of Hohenheim because the research here has a strong focus on economic policy issues. That’s really important to me, because I want my work to make a practical impact on evidence-based economic policy.”
