The BMBF-funded project NetCDA (“European Academic Network for Capacity Development in Climate Change Adaptations in Africa") aims to strengthen academic education on climate change adaptation strategies in Africa. The project is run by nine German partners in a project consortium in close collaboration with the graduate school programme of the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL).  A core principle of international cooperation between the research institutions is the strengthening of joint structures. In the long term, NetCDA aims to initiate a strong European-African network of researchers working on capacity development in Africa. This network should be a hub for the development of new and innovative ideas for capacity development measures in Africa and a contact point for researchers who want to get involved.

The first annual meeting in Würzburg laid the foundation for joint efforts to train the next generation of climate change experts in West Africa. The participants are looking forward to the work ahead and the opportunity to make a difference in tackling climate challenges across the region.
